Thisbookprovidesanintroductiontocomplexanalysisforstudentswithsomefamiliaritywithcomplexnumbersfromhighschool.StudentsshouldbefamiliarwiththeCartesianrepresentationofcomplexnumbersandwiththealgebraofcomplexnumbers,thatis,theyshouldknowthati2=-1.Afamiliaritywithmultivariablecalculusisalsorequired,butherethefundamentalideasarereviewed.Infact,complexanalysisprovidesagoodtraininggroundformultivariablecalculus.Itallowsstudentstoconsolidatetheirunderstandingofparametrizedcurves,tangentvectors,arclength,gradients,lineintegrals,independenceofpath,andGreenstheorem.Theideassurroundingindependenceofpathareparticularlydifficultforstudentsincalculus,andtheyarenotabsorbedbymoststudentsuntiltheyareseenagaininothercourses.
